Abstract

This study examines the operational convergence between the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), two ideologically divergent but strategically aligned terrorist groups. It hypothesises that the emerging convergence between them is driven by pragmatic imperatives and lacks ideological cohesion and sustainability prospects. Employing qualitative methods, the research integrates primary data from interviews with secondary data. A critical deductive analysis, underpinned by data triangulation with theory, offers insights into the alliance's motivations, indicators, and limitations. The study addresses three core questions: (1) What drives the operational collaboration between the TTP and the BLA? (2) What are the observable indicators of this convergence? (3) What limitations hinder the sustainability of this quasi-alliance? Drawing from various theories of terrorism studies, the findings suggest that shared tactics, mutual resource utilisation, and coordinated propaganda efforts underpin this collaboration. However, ideological incompatibilities, divergent operational strategies, and geographic constraints limit its longevity.
